Scorpio New Moon 2024

Scorpio New Moon

Naked and Unafraid

Transmutation

Alchemy

This moon is a convergence point of shadows, depths, darkness, Dark Goddesses and ancestors.

Astrologically, we are gathering under the dark moon of Scorpio. It doesn’t get much darker than that! What does this mean? Scorpio is a sign of emotional depths. The scorpion herself lives under the Earth. She is protected by an exoskeleton and a stinger on her tail. The scorpion has always been considered a terrifying creature, instilling fear in those who come in contact with her and her sting. Her sting is sometimes deadly, depending on the species.
Astrologically, Scorpio brings to the surface, our deepest fears and unsettled emotions, as well as traumas from this life, lives of the past and traumas of our ancestors. These are surfaced at this time, and there is no hiding from them. We are all face-to-face with our deepest shadows which is scary, uncomfortable, unpredictable and hard to look at.. much like the scorpion herself.
There can be a softening here, however. Scorpion Mamas carry their babies on their backs. They are a source of strength and nurturing in a way that might be unexpected! They are loyal mothers, and they provide a sturdy foundation of stability despite their frightening appearance. They will not, however, do the work for you. They will teach you lessons the hard way. They are there to guide us but certainly ask us to dig deep and  face the shadows on our own.

The energy of the Scorpio New Moon is asking us what we need to face head-on that is still living in the deepest darkest parts of our souls. How can we face the shadows and allow them to be free? How can we accept them as part of ourselves, love them fully, or allow them to be released in order to make space for soil cultivation and eventually new growth? This process is not a quick one. It requires us to integrate over the next several months of winter by turning inward, paying attention and noticing what tender parts of our shadow selves need extra care.

As if that wasn’t intense enough!….

We are also working with the energies of Samhain in the Celtic tradition, and other rituals and traditions culturally around the world which recognize what we call “the thinning of the veil“. In Mexico, there is the beautiful tradition and celebration of the Dia de los Muertos, where we honor our ancestors and other beings who have passed before, by placing their photos on an altar called an Ofrenda. Cemeteries, graveyards, and homes are ornately decorated with candles and marigolds, and it is a time of music and celebration. Pagan traditions and the traditions of the indigenous Irish Celtic, brings us Samhain, which is known in modern days as Halloween. When we look at the Celtic Wheel of the Year or the Sabbot Wheel, Samhain marks the Cross Quarter day between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. The Sabbot is made up of eight Seasonal Celebration Days, four of which mark the quarter points of the wheel of the year, and four of which mark cross-quarter celebrations. These cross-quarter days also represent the liminal space in between the definitive seasons.

They are portals of transition.

They are the feelings of change.

They are an unsettled energies of sorts, not quite here and not quite there.
We are stepping through a threshold from one season to the next. It is said to be the time of the year when the veil is at her thinnest. This gives us access to the spirit realm, our ancestors, the quantum realms, and the ability to fold timelines. It is a potent time of magic.
